In choosing Handpicked Lodges’ first ever nominated charity to benefit from a £1 donation from every booking, we were absolutely delighted to settle on a Highlands-based charity very close to our hearts.
Regulars on Cairngorm’s slopes in winter, we have often seen the work of Disability Snowsport UK in action. DSUK is a national charity, based nearby in Glenmore, which enables adults and children with many different disabilities and chronic illnesses to enjoy the exhilaration and pure joy of skiing on snow alongside the able-bodied.
With a 30-year history, DSUK has the expert know-how to help people with disabilities ski and snowboard at all levels, for the sheer fun of it right up to international elite competition level.
In October, Tanja and Judith from HPL had a great morning with Stephen and David from DSUK, finding out more about the great work that they do in the UK. They were fortunate enough to try out a sit-ski: it's great fun and gives even severely disabled people the opportunity to ski independently. It was fantastic to be given a taster of the kind of experience DSUK are committed to facilitating and we are so excited to be supporting their work through our business.
